As I was a mom with one child with me, and other babies in the cradle, I was working 12 hour shifts sanding flooring and tearing off wallpaper. Ha! It was all starting to take shape, however we weren't anywhere near finished. To complete this task I was ready to shell out a substantial amount of time and money shopping for my dream home. To stay within my budget I took my kids along to search for treasures in estate sales. Our weekly routine was to spend Thursday-Saturday walking through garage and estate sales to purchase a mix of old and new pieces and then I would spend the weekdays painting sanding in the driveway. It was a bit like it... This is when my interest in restoration of furniture started. When our house was furnished, I still couldn't quit! There was a market in the area for me to sell pieces. I eventually had numerous pieces that I did not think of a solution and outgrew the space. At home, I started hosting open houses, where over 1,000 people were able to come in and buy any item they liked on the 1st floor over the course of a weekend. My business Growing Days began here. The business I was running was growing, but my family was also growing. It was a balance between starting a new business and being a mother. Growing Days just seemed to work. It was in 2013 when my lovely daughter Nora was born. She is our fourth child. Though I was content with the direction my business went, I was feeling like I was in need of some time off. I took a pause from creating furniture for vintage homes, and also slowed my pace to be at home to raise the children. This was precisely what I needed at that time. However after a few months without a phone, it began to ring. The people who called me were needing help with the interior decoration and improvements. The majority of them had attended my house during the open houses to purchase furniture. Then I slowly took on clients at my own speed. In the end, I had many customers and was operating as a home improvement business. When you first spoke to me about your home remodeling business I laughed. As I reflect back, it still makes me giggle.
