In the mid-1990s, she began doing professional dance and performance at Boulder's Dinner Theatre in Colorado and Country Dinner Playhouse. When she moved to Minnesota, she starred in a mock-documentary film called Drop Dead Gorgeous (1998) about beauty pageants. When she made her screen debut as a ditzy but good-natured contestant she moved towards Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.
